Whether you believe in peak oil or not, one thing is certain, energy prices are headed higher as other countries such as China and India work towards our lifestyle. You may find the below links interesting if not helpful.

No we are not going to run out of oil anytime soon, but the easily accessible oil has been tapped, most major oil fields are past their prime. Ghawar in Saudi Arabia, first started producing in 1951-many are saying it peaked in 2006 and is on the downhill side of the production bell curve.  Burgan in Kuwait is in decline. Canatrell in Mexico in severe decline. The world is not finding replacement oil fast enough to cover the declines in know fields and increased demand.

Major western oil companies only own 10% of the known reserves that are left. (Jan. 2008 ASPO-Ireland newsletter).  We are at the mercy of other countries, some not exactly friendly to the US.

``One hundred dollars a barrel is actually 14.9 cents a cup, so we're still talking about oil being remarkably cheap,'' said Matthew R. Simmons, chairman of Simmons & Co. International, a Houston-based investment bank that focuses on energy. Inventories ``are tight as a drum and I don't see how we get out of this box,'' he said in a Bloomberg television interview last week. ``Demand clearly isn't starting to slow down.''
