Estimate my solar energy system.

  • 1 pound of coal makes 1200 watts of electricity.  A Family of 4 requires 3,375 pounds of coal for making hot water every year.
  • World wide coal power plants are 33% - 36% efficient.
  • Oil production peaked in 1970 in the United States.
  • Natural Gas production peaked in the United States in 1973.
  • Natural Gas production peaked in Canada in 2001.
  • Production of Natural Gas wells virtually falls off a cliff once production peaks, because once the pressure is released it cannot be pumped back up.
  • Hydrogen is NOT a energy source, it is a carrier. To satisfy all the transportation needs of Los Angeles would require a doubling of the use of water and the output equivalent of 100 nuclear plants.

  • The main stream media is starting to report on the idea of "peak oil".

  • On June 14th 2007 the British newspaper "The Independent" warned that top scientist are predicting we are going to run out of oil faster than expected. Dr. Colin Campbell a former chief geologist and Vice-president of BP, Shell, Fina, Exxon, and ChevronTexaco states peak hit in 2005. All major oil fields are in decline and have been since 2005. Natural gas will peak world-wide in 20 years or sooner. Look for drastic price increases in the near future.

  • BusinessWeek 07/26/2007 states with peak oil hitting in  2005 and alternatives at least a decade away and not being able to fill the gap look for slowing, then a stop and then a reversal for the economy plunging the world into a new dark age. War would result for the remaining supplies.

  • Oil trading for around $90 a barrel, we're
paying the equivalent of 13 cents a cup.

There's 667 cups in every barrel of oil. So $90 divided by 667 =
    $0.13.

How do I figure how many amps a solar panel will produce.

  • watts / volts = amp   ie 18 watts divided by 15 volts = 1.2 amps

or another way is

  • amps x volts = watts   ie   1.2 amps x 15 volts = 18 watts
